Today's update to my ubuntu lts14.04 created internal error cannot completely boot up after log in. What to do?

at boot time, select the 'recovery ' mode, activate the network, then use the console to do the required stuff

Well for some reason by selecting Mate rather than the usual Ubuntu I was able to work through the report problem window and after several more fix problem windows

I have succeeded in fixing it. Thanks
