Hello there, I have tried to join the irc chat room of ubuntu for the first time to communicate with fellow ubuntu and linux enthusiast unfortunately when I tried to join a session I got this message "You are banned from this server- You have a host listed in the DroneBL." How do I fix this? or will I never be able to join the chat sessions? :(

Thread moved to Resolution Centre.

And moved on to The Cafe.

@Afnan, we don't really have a sub-forum for a question like this since we don't administer IRC, and although the Cafe is not really for support, this is probably the best place for finding someone with IRC experience who might be able to help more than I can.

DroneBL lists IP addresses that are prone to abuse. I think that would be the first place to look.

when IRC finally goes secure (e.g. TLS) then login password access will be practical as an exemption case for listed networks. otherwise see if you can get a static IP address from your provider ... maybe you can convince someone to make an exemption for that.

I've just checked your IP on DroneBL and you can request removal from that list yourself. The list has nothing to do with Ubuntu, Ubuntu forums, or Ubuntu IRC channel.

If you look at the results of your IP lookup you will see, to the right in blue, 'request removal'. Good luck. :)

FTR, the website is http://www.dronebl.org/ - the removal request facility is accessible from their lookup page.

Snap! :)

Exactly! I was probably doing a little homework on how best to respond when you posted, and didn't notice at first.... :D

Thank you everyone for such fast response, I was having trouble with some few other issues. One regarding google chrome screen tearing and another regarding gnome tweak tool. I would really appreciate some help on those :)

You will have to start new threads for those problems, after a search, of course, as they will not be seen here with this thread title.

Generally one problem per thread is the best way to go.

Hi Afnan, rather than link to those threads here it's best to post "bump" in both of them so that it brings the threads into view when users search for new posts.

You can "bump" threads every 15 hours or so if you don't get a reply.
