For example one of the available updates is "userspace interface to Intel-specific kernel DRM services - runtime", but I have an AMD CPU, so while it seems as if this update is not applicable, OTOH since the Software Updater knows it is running on the AMD64 platform, there must be a good explanation for it is showing this update. Are these hardware specific libraries for other hardware necessary, or could they safely be ignored?

just update. having an old kernel service could lead to a security risk. updates are fixes most of the time so why not. you may not have a lot of things, but the support for them are still part of the system.

you shouldn't ignore any updates.

kerry_s is right. Install it.
Ubuntu's cross-platform QML implementation depends upon it.
