Does such a thing already exist?

I just noticed I have had this account over 10 years, so I felt old but also happy that I have been using Linux this long :D

Not that I know of, but I haven't been here all that long. :)

I'm sure that if there is, there is some matter of fees paid to the Staff in the form of doughnuts.

You should have claimed your 10 year avartar image when you had the chance. Like I did. Actually those avartar images were made to commemorate the tenth anniverary of this forum. So, I guess that there are very few who can claim to have been signed up from the start. And those anniverary avartar images were free for everyone regardless of when the joined the forum.

As regards donuts, I do not discrimate. Jam; iced; split with cream or custard, I munch the lot.

LOL cariboo. There she is, ol' faithful! Ouch! :)

PS: cariboo's pick does not give any idea of the scale or size of this implement. Generally takes three or four of us to lift the thing.

Did the mods wear out the old ban hammer?

Irihapeti
September 19th, 2015, 06:46 AM
Which one was that, OGW?

It must have been before my time, because I've never banned anyone.

Not counting spammers, of course (there are too many of those to count!) :)

Oooh. I like that one, too. It's actually 3 metres long and weighs in at a 120lbs. You can ban a small island with that. :)

PS: And congratulations to the original poster on ten years with Linux.

...

I have but I didn't really like doing it, and I discouraged the practice (excluding spammers) unless it was a last resort. I even had the numeric ban codes memorized. I have wondered if the codes are used anymore. ;)

I haven't banned anyone except for spam in a long time, I don't think. I like the way we are doing things these days.

Well, except for rinruckus, who I'm going to ban now just out of boredom.

Maybe I can come out of retirement for old-time-sake and ban runrickus using my old ban hammer. It leaves a nasty impression on what it strikes.

No more Ruckus from the Rickus:D

It is good to see the OGWolf still active here. Kind of missing one Elf here though.
So this is a 10 year Hazing.
Reflecting back and not trying to get all sappy here you know I would not know what else to do without the forum(And Staff) here.
To the OP Congrats.

I haven't been around here for a long time, but I saw this and realized I joined 10 years ago. I think I started with Hoary Hedgehog. I remember being pretty stoked when Breezy Badger came out. :D

I can only claim 8 years here (has it been that long?) but I still have a copy of the installation disks for Feisty Fawn (7.04) in regular Ubuntu and Kubuntu.

I don't know about all of the Old Guard, but I think some of them need Right Guard! ;)

I'm still running Hardy Heron Development. :D

That wallpaper was cool. For some reason 8.10 Intrepid Ibex was one of my favorite wallpapers.

I remember messing with 8.10 and having no idea what the wallpaper was. Apparently it was an Ibex. :p

I wonder if I still have my old 5.04 CD somewhere. Probably. Took me about 10 minutes from first time I booted it to decide it's going to be my main OS from that point on, and that decision has held pretty well this far. :D (I remember also having the CD for 4.10 but I have no memory of ever booting that one).

I'd say over those 10 years Ubuntu has given me less headaches than a single Windows update. And most of what I've learned about Linux was from reading these forums and trying to solve other people's problems. For the few things I've ever had any problems with I always found existing solution. So as far as I know, these are still by far the best & most friendly tech forums in the Internet. :D Good reason to stay around even if I don't have as much free time to spend here these days.

Some people said it looked like a cow stepped in manure. Personally, I thought it looked more like a horse hoof, as cows have a split hoof.

Hey, wow! I didn't pay attention but after reading this headline I checked and I'll be a full 10 years with UF on the 11th! (8/11/2005).

I think I preferred the wallpapers and style back before it got "corporate" and the logo turned purple. I also prefer the multi-color log rather than the 2-color.

I don't remember when that switch-over was but I know it was after 2008. I understand why they did it, I just prefer the older, "fun-focused" style of the earlier versions, even the brown (yeah, I know... I'm probably the only one...) :)

The switch-over happened back in April 2010 when 10.04 LTS Lucid Lynx came out. Just so you know. :)

Thanks.. my memory isn't so good in my old age ;)

I knew it was somewhere between 2008 and 2012 but wasn't sure if it was 8, 9, 10 or 11.
