Hey

I would like to know if it is possible to install Ubuntu on a PS3?

I dont care if the original OS from Sony is gone, and I never can use the PS3 as a "normal" PS3 again.

Just think it would be cool, running an Ubuntu Desktop on a PS3 - possible?

(The PS3 might be updated with the latest firmware etc from Sony if that makes a difference)

Thanks a bunch

What CPU does a PS3 use? Is there a Linux/Ubuntu port to that CPU architecture? Answer the first question and then you may be able to answer the second question.

Google is your friend. Or, may be not. All the posts I am seeing after a Google search are old posts. So, how old is that PS3? It may not have hardware capable of running newer versions of Ubuntu.

An example and it is from 2007

Edit: It seems that Sony got wise to people installing Linux on the PS3 and put a block on doing it.

Yes, unless you have an original PS3 that was never firmware updated.
