I'm trying to install Xubuntu on my computer, and it refuses to work. After waiting for a while for the live disc to boot, I get: EDD: Error 8000 reading sector 462576

This happens for both my 12.04 and my 14.04 discs.

I burned it using Brasero on a friend's computer, and I know that the disc drive on my computer works.

Using 64 bit BTW.

Only use CD's or DVD's if you are forced to do so.
Have you tried 14.04 or 15.04 booted from USB?

Have you tested both disks on another computer to see if they boot. Did you verify the download using an md5 checksum. Burn it as an image. The link below discusses the problem and it seems to be either a bad download or a bad disk.

My computer can't boot off of a USB drive, and I don't have another 64-bit machine to test it on.

I'm going to try booting it off of my Linux Mint disk.
