upgrade 12.04 a 14.04

Si actualizo ubuntu 12.04 a 14.04, se actualiar el php o solo el kernel,
tengo la version de php 5.3 y no quiero actulizarla por que en mi trabajo se
esta utilizando, pero quiero actualizar el ubuntu, si afecta al php?

Entonces si hace la actualizo el ubunut tambien se actualiza el php
