Hi All,

I am trying to install Xubuntu on a Compaq Presario 2100. I previously had tried to install Ubuntu but was advised to install Xbuntu (14.04) as I had a series of problems with Ubuntu and probably not enough RAM.

I have got as far as the installation but now have a series of text lines beginning [718.55704] Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init! exitcode=0x00000087 up to [718.556031] drm_kms_helper: panic occurred, switching back to text console.

Hopefully someone can help,

Best,

Duncan

For a computer of this age I recommend the alternate Lubuntu (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu/Alternate_ISO) install. A standard Xubuntu is probably too heavy.

Ditto on Lubuntu.

Also, always make sure you do an md5sum checksum on the live cd .iso file before burning. And then do the disk integrity check from its menu when you boot it.
