authentication problem

Been trying to upgrade from 14.04 to 15.04 but system rejects my authentication code. I have used it for other things and it has worked just fine. I tried a few older codes in case I had gotten it wrong, but no luck. Is there a way I can verify my authentication code without using my authentication code?

Don't know what you mean by "authentication code" - do you mean password?

However, there is not direct upgrade from 14.04 to 15.04. The only supported upgrade is
14.04 --> 14.10 --> 15.04.
Or you can wait until 16.04 since LTS to LTS release upgrades ARE supported. 16.04 is the next LTS release and most end-users should skip the non-LTS releases.
