14.04 LiveCD environment splits the ram in half

We have a HP Z820 with 256GB of ram that we would like to use as a Air Gapper to transfer files from one media to another. Problem is when it boots it takes half the ram leaving us with 128GB ramdisk. Tried creating a custom environment using ramastersys changing the FStab file but when the iso is created the FStab goes back to default. Please help, any advice?

Thats the way ram is set up by default, half of your ram is available for ram disk. You need to find some more ram for your box.

Is there really 256 Gigabyte RAM? (On the other hand, 256 Megabyte RAM is not at all enough.)

I think it will manage the memory differently, if you install the system, and run it as an installed system, which can be portable, if that is what you want; just avoid proprietary drivers).

Could they edit the installer script(s) to change the "use half of available RAM" bit to some reasonable number for their purposes?

We have edited the /etc/fstab file. After we used remastersys to create a customized livecd, however the problem we keep encountering is that the fstab file removes the line which dictates the size. We used gedit to change this line

none /run/shm tmpfs nosuid,nodev,size=268435456000 0 0

Have you tried to port an (already) installed system?
