SCENARIO: Newly installed Ubuntu 14.04 LTS on a laptop with the following specs

SPECS: Samsung Series 5, Hybrid Graphics Card (Intel/AMD Radeon™ HD 8750M Graphics)

WHAT I TRIED: I tried most of the suggestions on this sites

http://askubuntu.com/questions/476664/cannot-change-backlight-brightness-ubuntu-14-04?rq=1
http://itsfoss.com/fix-brightness-ubuntu-1310/

FYI: I even tried manually changing the backlight values under /sys/class/backlight and it does not have any effect. When plugged its on full bright, when on battery mode its very dim.

I'm out of luck so I was hoping someone could help.

I have two Samsung laptops, an R620 and R720, and had similar problems when I first installed Ubuntu and Kubuntu on them. Then I found http://www.voria.org/ which helped a little. Have you seen the following?

Linux on my Samsung (Forum) (http://www.voria.org/forum/index.php)
Linux on my Samsung (PPA) (https://launchpad.net/~voria/+archive/ubuntu/ppa)

According to the Launchpad site the PPA provides "fixed and new packages for a better Ubuntu experience on Samsung laptops."

Might be worth searching the forum for your specific laptop model if you're trying to get (some of) those Fn keys working as intended.
