I upgraded from 14.04 lts to 14.10 and i cant loggin, my password is not working, what can i do?

What exactly do you mean by "password is not working"?
How did you carry out the upgrade?

Can you use Ctrl+Alt+F1 when you get to the login page and then login to command line with your username and password (password will not show on screen). That will at least show us if this is just a GUI/DE problem or something deeper at fault.

I know that this is a really bad way to do it, but backup data and reinstall ubuntu

Do you really want to upgrade to 14.10?

It is about to lose support in a few weeks time, when you would need to upgrade again to 15.04, and then again in a few months to 15.10.
I would strongly recommend that you stay with 14.04 until April next year when the next LTS version will appear, ie 16.04.

The LTS versions are supported for 5 years; the intermediate versions for 9 months only. Like may other users, I use only the LTS versions on my working machine and try out intermediates in VirtualBox.
