So I have been playing with the new "Official" UbuntuMate 15.04, and I see some big improvements over Gnome Panel/Flashback that I have been using. But...

I don't like VLC. I prefer Totem. Just not this one... When it opens up dialog windows, there is not button bar, so closing is a challenge. And the menu bar never goes away when full screen. Any hope, or is this why they changed from Totem to VLC?

have you tried running it from terminal to see errors ?

my thought is totem is part of gnome & gnome is pretty much gtk3, while mate is still pretty much gtk2 with some gtk3 support.

you'd proably have better luck with parole from xfce, as it uses the same framework as totem.

It gives no errors. It just has a title bar that will not go away when full screen and the popup windows have no close button. :) But as far as it thinks, it is working fine. :)

But I will check out parole.
