View Full Version : Ubuntu saved my laptop!

So a few years ago, my laptop running Windows 7 got the dreaded BootMGR is missing error. After many tries, I couldn't save it. It's been tucked in my basement until about week ago.
Then, I discovered Ubuntu! :p 14.04 Trusty Tahr runs with no error. My Inspiron lives again! I'm currently teaching myself terminal commands so I have a deeper understanding of how Linux works.
Thanks, Ubuntu!

good for you! make sure to try other ubuntu versions, they all act differently & sometimes 1 will work better/best on your hardware.

Welcome to the forums and thanks for sharing your story. I have received many broken machines over the years and revived them. The Acer laptop that I am typing on now was an old Vista machine that balled itself up. The owner just bought a new one and gave me this one. I'm running 14.04 and it runs just fine.

If you like Ubuntu 14.04 then try 15.04 "Vivid Vervet" The interface is a little different but you get used to it
