Hi,

This is a very nice feature Mozilla has been working on since last November, it is basically a built-in anti-tracker using blacklists from Disconnect to remove all tracking scripts online. This result in a increase of performance, and has some beneifical side-effect like blocking ads (those that inject tracking cookies which is at least 60% of them)

Firefox's Optional Tracking Potection Reduces Load Time For Top News Site By 44%:

Thanks Mozilla, as I would say this is a very lightweight alternative to third-party addons like Ghostery or Adblock Plus. Using it for 2 days now it's unobstrusive and it does indeed make browsing faster.

This is pretty good for me and does the exact same thing as Disconnect or Privacy Badger. It's an antitracker but one will quickly realize that many ads are also removed as a result. Which is a (perhaps interesting) side-effect. This is because more than a few ad providers use tracking cookies to deliver their ads, so the Firefox Tracking Protection will block these requests.

I am seeing no ads whatsoever on pretty much all the ''major'' websites like Youtube, New York Post, Gawkers ect. That tells you something about the extent of tracking going on these days.

Same here. Admongers are going to get their undies in a twist over this for sure, but too bad.

I removed Adblock this weekend from Firefox and I am now only using the built-in Tracking Protection. This alone blocks at least 60% of all ads.
I've never been comfortable using Adblock but the web has become so bloated, that removing some of these scripts has become necessery.
And that's not to say the invasion of privacy that advertisers now shamelessly do. I don't mind seeing ads here and there, but when you have
3 to 12 trackers on a page that raise some questions about the way advertising is going. And the gain in performance of using an antitracker is impressive.

I've since gone back to Bluehell Firewall (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/bluhell-firewall/) after the announcement that Adblock Edge, is going to be discontinued this month. BlueHell, nails a reported 95% of adds, and has it's own Tracking/Priviacy Protector. Maybe in conjunction with this little app, one can remove most of the remaining ~40% of ads you see without Adblock. I don't know if there are any conflicts with having it with FF's built-in Tracking protection though.

OK then, I tried it for about 5days now and noticed little difference ( maybe safer to use than adblockplus, not sure ).

If I notice any speed difference. - No not really anything big -

I tried it with adblock and without. I tried it with bluehell firewall and without.

Use what works for you. :P

You can also try uBlock Origin, which is the reason why Adblock Edge has been discontinued. It is easier on ressources than ABP and there is of course no ''acceptable ads'' allowed.

ABP is a memory hog. It's hard not to notice it's impact as soon as you remove it, unless you have a huge amount of RAM available.

It would probably be better to use uBlock Origin or BluHell Firewall (as suggested by mikodo) if you really want 'Adblocking power'.

Since Firefox Tracking Protection is not an addon but really more a feature to be enabled in Firefox, it's memory footprint is quite low.
If you don't mind seeing ads here and there, it's quite good. It will still block most ads though because a lot of them use trackers.
