I was just wondering why the Ubuntu devs chose the codename "Tahr" for Ubuntu 14.04. It's not a very well known animal and I don't see why it's so trusty. Why not something like "Trusty Tortoise"? I thought that would be good since they live so long and that was a LTS release.
Just a random thought. :)

The Ubuntu Developers don't choose the release names, Mark Shuttleworth does.

http://www.markshuttleworth.com/archives/1295 is his rather lengthy post announcing the Trusty Tahr name.

It is just a bit of fun. There does not have to be any special meaning to the code name. Ubuntu 15.10 has the code name Wily Werewolf.
