Ubuntu 14.04 LTS loaded besides my Windows 7 laptop. But when I tried to load it with my Windows xp sp3 desktop
it just gave me an error message:
"This kernel requires an x86-64 cpu but only detected an i686 cpu.
Unable to boot - please use approved kernel for your cpu".

Where is the problem? Do I need to download a different Ubuntu iso file?

Yes. You must have a 32bit processor and trying to install a 64bit system on it. Won't work.

What are your equipment specs (ram, cpu, video)? There are other flavors of *buntu that run better on older equipment.
