Sounds weird, right?
Fresh install of Ubuntu.
First, installed AMD ATI proprietary drivers (but I had this working BEFORE my fresh install, WITH those drivers, so... i don't think that's it)
Then, installed Gnome with sudo apt-get install gnome-shell (sorry, I don't know how to do the gray background for command line text :\)

It happens every time that dialog pops up. I'm new to Linux, so anything I suggest (my thoughts being this is a problem with a font file, or something) is merely speculation.
