View Full Version : After fresh install of Ubuntu 15.04, installing "kubuntu-all" makes computer unusable

My wife's computer was long overdue for an update, so I bought a 250 GB SSD to make it more pleasant to use and did a fresh install of Ubuntu 15.04 using the SSD as root. All seemed to go well until I tried to put KDE on it by installing "kubuntu-all". I told it, as I have in the past when installing KDE on an Ubuntu system, to keep using lightdm rather than kdm.

There was a popup saying I needed to restart the computer to complete the update, so I did... to find that neither dm appeared to be working. I saw a blank purple screen, and the mouse cursor was there and responded to trackpad movement on the keyboard. Pressing keys had no visible effect.

This is the first time anything like this has happened to me with Ubuntu. Any suggestions, or lists of additional information I need to provide, would be appreciated.
