i just downloaded ubuntu desktop 14.04 lts. i put it on a usb drive, with rufus.exe so as to boot it from there. when i try to do that, it says: starting... next line; us english keyboard with us english codepage[437] next line; C:\>_ cursor flashing, doesn't move, let it sit about 30 min. shut off & restarted computer. then i just double clicked the ubuntu download, got error message language\f2grc.dll is missing. please reinstall application. i did that 2x, no change.
i have windows 7 home premium on hp desktop w/amd athlon ii x4 640 processor 3ghz 4gb ram 64bit hard drive has 768 gb free.
any thoughts? thanks!

I don't know about rufus.exe, but C:\> and f2grc.dll are Windows things, so I think something went wrong creating the live usb. This may help: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/FromUSBStick. Scroll down to "Creating a bootable Ubuntu USB flash drive from Windows".

thank you. i think something is wrong with the download itself, since i get an error message when i just try to open it. both error and error message seem to indicated a missing file or language issue. i tried deleting & re-downloading and sending back the files 2 or 3x, nothing changes. i tried this through mozilla and chrome. maybe i'll try the ubuntu 12 & no rufus, see if that makes a difference. thanks again.

1) Did you md5sum check the downloaded iso?
See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM
Check the number against the listing in the link for your release listed at
http://releases.ubuntu.com under the MD5SUMS link.
2) If using a CD/DVD, did you burn the disc as slowly as possible?
See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto
3) Did you select the media check before trying to install?
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/CDIntegrityCheck
4) Did you ever do a "memory check" (another live-media menu choice) on your PC?
Doing the above can save you a lot of time struggling with a bad install media.

ok, i did download the os directly from the ubuntu download page, thinking it might have been the installer. i'm going to see if the installer i downloaded directly thru the ubuntu page(universal usb installer), i am actually doing it through usb 2.0, although i could do 3.0. i'll see if this does it, if that doesn't, i'll be back to go down the check list you provided. thanks so much, i really appreciate the assistance.

Hello!

Are you trying to install Ubuntu while Windows is running?

looks like i'm in! i knew how to change the boot menu, just something wrong with the earlier installer i guess. i am on firefox w/sync, figured out how to set up my internet, as people have said, easy peasy! i should be able to save my settings, now will set up my chrome & that's a good start! thanks everyone, really appreciate the help. i'm sure i'll be back :)
