Game designer American McGee of Doom and Quake fame has switched from Microsoft Windows to Ubuntu, according to his blog (http://www.americanmcgee.com/wordpress/?p=171)

The reason? Windows Genuine Advantage.

"This isn’t the first time I’ve attempted a switch to Linux, but it is the first time that I’ve made the switch and am going to stay switched." says McGee.

Simply Awesome, thanks for the post.

I was angry for a moment, but then I realized: I don’t much like Windows anyway. So I wiped the offending garbage from my machine and installed Ubuntu Linux (http://www.ubuntu.com/). All in all a painless process.

The truth is, Ubuntu “out of the box” is a little lacking (can’t play proprietary video formats, run PC apps, is missing much needed apps, etc), but with the use of an installer script called Automatix, (http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=223087&highlight=automatix) I now have a free, highly functional, and stable OS. And it’s pretty to boot.

This isn’t the first time I’ve attempted a switch to Linux, but it is the first time that I’ve made the switch and am going to stay switched.

This is what I'm hoping for, America McGee's Alice is one of my favorite games.

I read some interviews and other things about him, and it seems like his interests might be shifting from gaming somewhat. Even so, I hope he can influence the gaming industry for Linux.

I remember him from his work on the original Doom and Quake so I guess that shows my age  . Alice is a great game too though. Great atmosphere.

As always, it is better to ask the all mighty god "Google".

Also it seems wine and cedega are running it quite well and it seems it has been like that for a couple of years already.

Check cedega out if you don't believe wine works well. Someone did and it works perfectly it seems: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/showthread.php?t=455804

I actually bought my geforce fx 5200 card to play his Scrapland game, as it had pixel shading. He does great stuff!! I loved Alice.
