Okay so here's my problem... my screen has moved to the right... I don't know how to explain it, but it has. There's a big huge blank space on the left and the rest of the screen is pushed over and I can't see the right side. I wanted to switch desktops to see if that's the issue but there's a problem. Now I've seen screen caps of the log in screens from various ubuntus, but for some reason, the area for me to click to switch desktops has always been on the top right corner. I need to switch out of my current desktop because I accidentally downloaded an unstable desktop and I think that might be what's causing the problem

Here's what it looks like:

See how there's no area to change desktops and a big blank space on the left? :P

From what I can gather, my video card driver isn't being read and I don't know why. But I want to rule out what desktop I'm in... I've tried to uninstall it (it's Cinnamon BTW) but even though I installed this myself, my computer thinks I'm not root. This is what happens when I try to uninstall it:

I just spent like 3 hours with the guys in chat and god bless them but they couldn't figure out the problem.

If anyone can help out or has any suggestions, let me know. I'd really hate to have to restart from scratch. .

EDIT
hey can someone closed it, I fiddled around with the monitor settings and somehow it just... moved back, I'll remember that for next time... finally was able to get out of that awful cinnamon. Gotta be more careful about what i install next time
