Just a friendly reminder to the community about the potential for Ubuntu membership via Forums Participation (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Forums/Membership).

Applying for membership can seem like an intimidating process, with a number of steps, form launchpad page, to gpg signed CoC, to testimonials, but don't let that fool you ;)

The staff is here to help you if you have questions or problems.

In addition we do have an IRC channel for the forums, #ubuntuforums (http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=ubuntuforums) on freenode. I have asked those staff who use IRC to be available on this channel as well.

Keep in mind, the idea we are trying to foster is friendship and community, so come on in from the cold =)

Along those lines, we are working at integrating the Ubuntu Forums with the greater Ubuntu Community (irc, wiki, MOTU, askubuntu, etc). Future staff will be selected from the pool of Ubuntu Forums Members, so I would also ask the community in general to encourage those who you feel you would like to see on staff to apply for membership as well.

Seems like application process is a lot easier these days -- however its likely my interpretation of the process. Kudos to all Ubuntu members -- You guys (and girls) deserve it!

Hello,

What is the exact problem you are having? If you are having problems with the markup then you could take a look at my wiki (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Silver_Fox) to see examples.

Alternatively you might want to join us in #ubuntuforums (http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=ubuntuforums) where we will be able to help you in a live environment.

Did you try logging into the wiki first with Ubuntu SSO, then navigating to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Your_Hame_here ? You might have to register for SSO, though...

Sorry to randomly post and offer help, but I have seen this as a common complaint when people ask the process for membership elsewhere, where they're not allowed to create a page (usually related to logging in or something).

That's what I get.

It offers you to create a new empty page.
You also have to learn some MoinMoin markup .. which is very easy.

Thanks :)
I thought about emailing UWN, then an alien spaceship landed just outside my window and I got distracted ..

Ubuntu Membership via Forum contributions (https://ubuntuforumsorg.wordpress.com/2016/03/07/ubuntu-membership-via-forum-contributions/) was posted on the Forums Council blog a couple of weeks ago but it seems not reposted here.

As the posts says, it's been a while since the last successful application. :)

Thanks PaulW2U :)

We'll be promoting in the wider forum shortly. Hopefully get a few peeps to realise it isn't as difficult to get as they might think :)

I have been an Ubuntu user since 2005 and have been on the forum the same amount of time and I thought it was about time to sign the Code of Conduct.
I went to install it and got this error. Not sure what is going on. I tried the one in the repository on the version I am using. (17.04). I also tried the one from the Code of Conduct Signing Assistant in Launchpad. The latest version is 0.4 on that page.
Here is the error I am getting.

I did a clean install on my Dell, but not sure how to upgrade this one now that it expired.
I was thinking that the 04 release was the LTS. I don't know how I missed that one. I went from 16.04 to 17.04 and never thought about it.
I know I can do a clean install if there is no easy way to do an upgrade to 17.10.1. I keep all my data in the cloud so all I would need to do is reinstall my programs and reset up my settings.
EDIT: I think I just answered my own question. I think there is an upgrade on the USB install stick I made for the install on the Dell. I need to check to see if it is there.
