Hi there,
I am having issues in many ubuntu system.
Below is the configuration for the PCS:-
1. Intel Core i3 (3rd generation)
2. RAM 4GB DDR3
3. HDD 500GB 7500RPM

Here is the list of soft wares I am using:-
1.Thunder bird
2. Netbeans
3. Spark Messenger
4. Git
5. Filezilla
6. Chrome and Firefox
7. Skype
8. LAMP

Seems like gnome interface consumes a lot of memory. Systems go out primary memory and swap partitions are used highly.
Would be happy to have a solution if there can be any stripped version for the same so that resources that are not required can be removed and can have a better speed with same configuration.

Thanks and Regards

I assume you are using the Unity desktop - that uses a whole lot more resources than are necessary for the software you list. If you explore other Ubuntu versions - MATE, Xubuntu, Lubuntu for example - the load will be lighter on your RAM (I assume you are using 64-bit versions).
