Copying Files from windows

I am getting ready to boot out windows.... so I did a backup on all my files. I am copying files from the windows area and putting them in the documents folder in Ubuntu. Will this truly copy them? Or is it more of a link to the files? I thought it might save me a bit of time to just copy them this way, rather than using the external drive for my laptop.

Hi Lori_Imel. Welcome to the forum ):P

If you are copying the files in Ubuntu using the regular file manager (called Nautilus), you are effectively coping the files.
