I have an old netbook, running an old version of UBUNTU. It has a 4G SSD (the boot drive) and a 16G SSD. I would like to install 32-bit 14.04.2 LTS from a USB, but the install fails due to lack of space. I presume the installer doesn't see the second drive. How do I do the install beginning on the boot drive and continuing on the second drive?

there's no option to make the 16gb boot first in bios ?
cause i would want the 16gb for / & 4gb /home

so any ways, make a 1gb /boot & the rest /home on the 4gb, make the 16gb /
that will give you the space need for apps & updates.
