This morning everything worked fine. Then I received an upgrade message so I upgraded. Now the icon that I used to be able to click on a select a different network is missing. I have no idea what it's called but I have a LOT of issues with my wifi and the only way short of rebooting to fix it is to disconnect from my current network and reconnect. That icon is now missing. How do I get it back? It is also the same Icon that lets me connect to my VPN which I now can't do either.

I'm using Ubuntu 14.04 with MATE and not unity.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've done some more searching. I think it might be called nm-applet. But still can't find any information on how to get it back.
