Ok, so I am so frustrated with this Windows 8.1 machine!!
Eventually it will dual boot as I have always done
I have a USB stick with UBUNTU on it and I want to see about running a live session.
I have already screwed up machine trying a DVD and had to do 'recovery' of my Win 8.1.
I have disabled 'secure boot'
I get to boot order screen and it has the following entry:
Windows Boot Manager
then something about:
UIEFI...IVPT 4
UIEFI...IVPT 6
and then :
Legacy Sources
Ok, those are not the exact words in each line but hope someone
gets what I mean, lol
This is an HP AMD A4-5000 APU
1TB hard drive
6GB RAM
Please, any help I would really like
Thanks

EDIT: if more info is needed, please ask

Is your Ubuntu 32 bit or 64 bit?

Have you read this?

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UEFI

You may also have difficulty in getting a successful install of Ubuntu because some manufacturers are modifying the UEFI to only boot Windows. There is a work around. It all depends upon whether HP is one of those manufacturers that are doing this. You most probably will also need Boot Repair.

That machine has built in graphics (I think). Does it also have another graphic adapter so that you have hybrid graphics? It is all additional complications.

Regards.

64 bit
Yes I did read that grahammechanical, thanks

I finally got a pic of my boot screen which I don't understand.
At this point I would be happy to be able to just run a live session!!
I knew I should have just built a new machine as I did 8 years ago (it died)
Any ideas on how to get it to boot from USB?
