Picked up one of these over the weekend - ASUS X551MAV-EB01-B 15.6" (http://www.microcenter.com/product/438199/X551MAV-EB01-B_156_Laptop_Computer_-_Black) - didn't know if anyone else would be interested. Installed Ubuntu 14.10 and seems to work fine.

That's a heckuva good price for those specs. Congrats.

I assume it shipped with Win 8.1 -- did you install as dual-boot, or wipe away Windows?

I recently picked up a Dell Inspiron 15-3542 15.6" laptop and I'm very happy with it. Replaced the Win8.1 hard drive with a spare that I had lying around and loaded Mint 17.1 first and then replaced that with Ubuntu 14.04. It's good to go.

I just bought this a couple weeks ago when it was at $399.99 but it has since gone up to $429.99 (still not bad for a 4th gen i5)

Works well with ubuntu, just need a little tweak to get brightness adjustment to work, other than that it's solid.
