issues with my 14.04

Hi,

Happy new year!

I have the Canonical flavour for from since summer of 2009 and generally worked well until about 2 months ago when:
1) I CAN'T update with the periodic upgrades, and
2) now my mouse doesn't even work, so I am really stuck.

Please advise. Thx.

I assume this is not still the same version of Ubuntu you installed in 2009?

Show us the output of

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
in code tags, see my signature for a how-to
That should give some clues to what is going wrong.

Hi there,

the original version was 9.??? and it has been upgraded several times. Thanks for your tip, let me try it and keep you posted, may be a few days as I don't often get onto this machine often. Thx.
