Hi,

Desktop PC , amd athlon x2 proc , 3.7 GB ram .( max temp = 74 gr Celsius , 165 F)
Running 10.10 Maverick since release date, very stable.
Upgraded now to 14.04 Trusty.. (Mate env.)

Idl temp. before upgrading 30 gr Celsius. (86 F)
Idl temp. after upgrading 46 gr Celsius. (115 F)

Watching a movie on Youtube ...temp rises to 64 C (147 F)
Then i switch the movie off, i don't want to kill my processor.

Solution?
Thank You.

Temperature issues may be caused by bad drivers that can't put hardware into energy saving mode (can often be solved using proprietary drivers). This is common when changing from Windows to Ubuntu, but not when changing from an old Ubuntu release to a new one. drivers usually don't get worse. Unless of course you used proprietary drivers on 10.10 and now use open source drivers, because proprietary drivers are no longer available. But that all applies mostly to GPUs.

Another possibility is that the temperature didn't really change, but your computer got better at interpeting the information from the sensors.

BTW, good that you moved away from 10.10. It had been unsupported for years.

Thx for help,

Change to Nvidia 173 driver (prop) ... no better.

When the temp becomes a trouble, i switch to an other Linux flavour?
