Hello, I am trying to get my Brother MFC-J470DW to scan with my 32bit Linux Mint 17.1. It prints fine, but when scanning, it says "Connecting to PC" and then quits after a short time. I have installed all the packages for linux on their website, and visited their FAQ, and tried some fixes they have there, but it still won't connect. Sorry if this is in the wrong category.

Thread moved to MINT.

Hi and welcome to the forums. The main support areas here are for Ubuntu and its flavours Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Edubuntu, Lubuntu, UbuntuGnome, Ubuntu Studio, and Mythbuntu.

While you are welcome to post in this sub-section, Mint has an active community and forum HERE (http://forums.linuxmint.com/). You might try posting there also to improve your chances of support.

Good luck. ;)

Okay, so that lets me scan from terminal, and the scanner cuts on, but when I try to open the file that is generated, it says "Unable to open document, file type PMM image is not supported" Also, I still cannot start a scan from the printer itself, it still just says "Connecting to PC" then quits. This did seem to be a step in the right direction, I hadn't found that post. Most everything I found was summed up on this thread

All the files that are commonly misplaced are as they should be, I did the fix you posted on the thread you linked to, didn't fix it. I haven't seen anyone else yet who has had this much trouble.

Download the Brother Installer from Brother: linux-brprinter-installer-2.0.0-1

Remove the old driver(s) before running it.
