View Full Version : Unable to update any packages in 12.10 and to latest version 14.10

Hello,

i have installed ubuntu 12.10 in my laptop as dual boot along with Win 8. actually both OS were working fine.

now i found ubuntu 14.10 and tried to update my current ubuntu 12.10 but none of the opetions mentiond in other posts were not working.
please help me to update 12.10 with latest ubuntu version 14.10.

Welcome to the Ubuntu Forums :-)

Ubuntu version 12.10 has passed end of life and cannot easily be upgraded. I suggest that you backup (save copies of) your personal files and make a fresh installation of Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS, which is a long time support version (supported until April 2019) while 14.10 is only supported for nine months, until July 2015.

There was a similar post to this the other day. In that thread I provided this link

You will have to go from 12.10 to 13.04 to 13.10 and then on to 14.04 before you get a supported Ubuntu. Your choice is to do a series of End of Life upgrades or a fresh install of Ubuntu 14.04. I would advise 14.04 as that has 5 years support from April this year. If you move on to 14.10 you will have to upgrade to 15.04 and then 15.10 before you get the next LTS release, which is 16.04.
