Olympus fe-340 not detected using Xubuntu 14.04, any ideas?

My Olympus fe-340 isn't being detected in Xubuntu 14.04. I've used lsusb and it dosn't show up. I've tried with and without sd card, plugging and un-pluging, turning on power and off, and rebooting. Help!

This of course would happen at Christmas!

It appears that the proprietary Olympus Master software is required to transfer image files to your system. This software, of course, isn't available for Linux. The instruction manual advises Mac users to close iPhoto and use the Olympus Master application instead. It looks as though you'll need to transfer files from the memory card directly to your system, without using the camera.
