A file got bookmarked in my Home Folder

One of my picture files somehow got "bookmarked" in my home folder. When I clicked the home folder in the Dash, right above computer it said "Bookmarks" and the file was below it.

I trashed the file and renamed it to get it out of the bookmark status.

I am curious though - how does one book mark a file (or files) and have it show up like that ?
