apt-get upgrade failed

Hey guys Ive got a Zimbra mail server running on Ubuntu.

Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS
Release: 12.04
Codename: precise

I had a failed apt-get update && apt-get upgrade the other month and it didn't break or prevent anything from running but its an error I would like to solve if possible.

Below is the error I'm receiving:

root@zimbra:~# apt-get upgrade

Obviously I have tried using -f but to no avail.

Could anyone throw some suggestions this way on how to eradicate this error?

I propose that you have installed "development" (32 bit) package that is holding libc6 to a lower version.

Let's consider removing ' libc-dev-bin ' as per:

libc-dev-bin:i386
libc6-dev
libc-dev-bin:i386
libc-dev-bin:i386
libc6-dev

I see nothing that the system at large depends on it;
What also results from terminal commands:

apt-cache policy libc-dev-bin
apt-cache policy libc6


Maybe purging ' libc-dev-bin ' will give a way to proceed in a forward direction ?

Thanks for you reply, I had previous tried purging and tried again with to no avail.
