I am wondering if there is a plain screensaver, for ubuntu, which will simply show photos, from a specific folder, and all sub folders, in order. if there is not a screensaver that will do that is there a photo viewer that will do that?

As I recall Google Picassa has a screensaver function and can be installed under WINE

Perhaps have a look at photopile in the xscreensaver collection...

Do you not have a "Folder" or "Picture Folder" selection in your list of available screensavers? It's available in MATE, so I would expect it to be available in other desktop managers.
