Error on update

Just installed new update for 14.04 and it advised "error -- malformed file" on reboot. Then "System error" when fully booted. I did a cold boot and it came back up, slowly. Everything seems OK but I'm wondering: 1. Why did I get a malformed file from Ubuntu, and 2. Am I living with something that is going to caused problems down the road? Thanks for any advice.

It's an old problem (error -- malformed file) I have it too

("System error" when fully booted) Not all that unusual. You can report it and probably carry on as normal
