For me material design is creating steel with new properties that will be better for a certain task. But I'm prejudiced from a long career in steel research ;-)

Wow ...
Yet the flexibility of the material creates new affordances that supercede those in the physical world, without breaking the rules of physics.Huh ? :-s :-?

:-k Wonder if trying to comprehend that sort of stuff can damage your brain. Feels a bit like it after reading only that far.

I read http://www.google.com/design/spec/material-design/introduction.html#introduction-principles but my eyes glazed over. That site contains some of the best nonsensical quotes ever: "A material metaphor is the unifying theory of a rationalized space and a system of motion. The material is grounded in tactile reality, inspired by the study of paper and ink, yet technologically advanced and open to imagination and magic."

So you just import the magic library and then rabbits pop out of your screen? Why are we not all using Material Design?!?
