I can get Ubuntu to install with nomodeset command. I can get it to update everything accept my display drivers. When I update my AMD R7 with the latest Linux release from the and website (which claims this release has Ubuntu 14.04 support) after installation of those drivers I reboot and the system just hangs on a black screen. The only way for me to make the system boot again is the fglrx --purge command? Has anyone been able to make their PC run with AMD display drivers? What am I doing wrong here?

Yes. I'm using a Radeon R7 240 and installed the AMD drivers using the Additional Drivers option.

However, I didn't see any real improvement, so I uninstalled them and went back to the open-source Radeon drivers.
