For those machines, your best bet may be to try Bodhi Linux (http://www.bodhilinux.com/). According to their site, the minimum requirements are: 300+MHz CPU, 128MB RAM, and 2.5GB hard drive space. I've gotten it to run on some pretty old machines. Be sure to use the 32 bit version, since those PIIs (assuming they are some of the later models with 32 bit architecture - I think they went there. If they are 16 bit you are out of luck.) and PIIIs won't have 64 bit instruction sets.

Lubuntu may or may not work. I'm thinking not. You can see the required minimum specs here (http://lubuntu.net/).

Bodhi Linux is based on Ubuntu but uses the Enlightenment Window Manager. Without a full-blown Desktop Environment you may get those PIIs to run. Enlightenment is a pretty slick interface.

Bodhi is a fine distro but if you prefer Lubuntu there's advice in the link in my signature.

Unless they have had a memory upgrade, those systems won't be able to run any of the Ubuntu family of operating systems.
