I was thinking of get this laptop from ebay and installing Ubuntu 12.04 I found this information on this website.

http://www.linlap.com/lenovo_thinkpad_t500

I know this unit does not have the ATI card so does that mean the sleep mode will work? What I was wondering is what works funtion key?, USB the above website states that is might cause suspend issues. Seems like the info is outdated in some areas on Linlap. I did find the thinkwiki how would 12.04 be compared to ? Any advice I would be thankful.

Given that the related info supplied is concerning much older kernel releases, I'd say you have much improved possibilities now. And personally I'd say 14.04 might be a better choice.

Ubuntu 14.04 is that still in beta? I am a little worried about trying a beta version. This system is 32bit not 64bit why would I use the 64bit with a 32bit system?

14.04 is the latest LTS release
14.10 has just been released but is only a short term release (9 months)

You can use 32 bit. I didn't suggest 64
But Core Duo processors are _64 bit I'm sure
