Hello All
First, let me apologise for the vaguness of this post. I am trying to help out a family member who is 3+ hours away.
They are running Kubuntu 12.04LTS and recently did an update. What was updated, I could not advise, however it was within the last 2-3 days.
After the update, when the system was next booted, there is only a garbled screen. No desktop, no error.
The first screen shot shows what is displayed before the error:

And this is showing what happens after the customary glowing Kubuntu in the previous screen shot.

I don't have access to any logs or anything else at the moment, but I should be able to access the PC over the weekend.
To the best of my knowledge, hardware setup is as follows:
AMD AM2 Quad Core CPU
Biostar AM2 Motherboard
8GB DDR2 800MHz
EVGA GT210 w/ 512MB GDDR5
500GB WD HD
Any help, suggestions and or pointers will be greatly appreciated!
