Back In Time wants chron running

Trying to install Back in Time after Deja-Dup failed me. BIT says it requires chron to be running if I want to send snapshots back to my home server. How do I know if chron is running? What do I do to make it run or if it is running, how do I tell BIT?

Running Ubuntu 14.02 with latest BIT download. Home server is an unRAID network with Samba shares.
