I am attempting to install ubuntu on a Vaio laptop, pcg-61a12l, using a cd that came with the "Beginning Ubuntu Linux" book by Keir Thomas (borrowed from the local library).
i am not sure exactly which version of ubuntu this is, but the book is from 2006
after booting from the cd and getting into the install process, it fails to detect and mount the cd-rom drive, saying there is no common cd drive detected. the book skips right over this step, assuming that it will properly detect and load all the drivers, and so I'm stuck.
