I downloaded and installed Trusty 14.10 and I am hoping to download and install a better system. As Launchpad reads, there is now a 14.10.1 and all I get after downloading this one is reading after I open it. What am I doing wrong?

Your question is hard to understand. It sounds like you're unhappy with 14.10. You want to replace it with a newer version of 14.10. All you need to do is update it. You do not need to reinstall it. Use the update manager, check for updates, install updates.

Trusty is 14.04, not 14.10. Ubuntu 14.04 is a LTS - long-term support - version, supported until 2019. As a LTS version, there will be point release ISOs available, starting with 14.04.1 which is already available here:

http://releases.ubuntu.com/trusty/

14.10 is called Utopic Unicorn and is an intermediate release for which there will be no point releases - there is no such thing as 14.10.1 - and it will be supported for nine months only until July 2015.

If you install 14.04 and keep it up to date, you will not need to re-install with the point releases.
