As it appears that I cannot utilize Lubuntu 14.10 and I have to go back to 14.04, I read that the only major changes within 14.10 belong to LXDE. The upgraded .tar.xz files are on the LXDE website. But I would have no idea even where to begin compiling them.

So is there a way to convert a .tar.gz file into a .deb file so it automatically compiles upon installation?

Please advise if possible. Thank you!

Here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/CompilingEasyHowTo you have a step by step guide.

I think it will take a lot of effort to compile all lxde desktop for your system. I think compiling is an expertize task.
