So I just bought a new desktop PC with no OS and installed Ubuntu 14.04. It has a TV tuner card and I wanted to eventually set it up as a DVR. After working days to get the really important stuff switched over from the PC I wanted to replace, I started looking for DVR software, and installed Mythtv.

After getting nowhere except closer to the funny farm, I started browsing this forum to maybe find some guidance. That's when I found this Mythbuntu stuff. So I go to "Get Mythbuntu" and eventually got to the download page that only listed Ubuntu versions up to Ubuntu 13.10. Which leads me to these questions:

1. Would it be wise to download and install 13.10?

2. Should I uninstall MythTV before installing the Mythubuntu Control Center?

I am confused! I go to the mythbuntu site (http://www.mythbuntu.org/) and click on "Existing Ubuntu" from the "Downloads" drop-down menu and it sends me to http://www.mythbuntu.org/existing-ubuntu where I see:

Installing

Click this link to install the Mythbuntu Control Centre, a utility designed to assist in installing and configuring a MythTV on Ubuntu:

So I click on the link and it sends me to "Mythbuntu Configuration Application" (https://apps.ubuntu.com/cat/applications/mythbuntu-control-centre/). Under "Available Versions," it only lists up to 13.10. But here (http://www.mythbuntu.org/home/news/14041released) it says "Mythbuntu 14.04.1 Released" - on Aug. 6!

Can someone PLEASE advise me on my best course of action. I really don't want to have to do a complete re-installation and lose everything I've done to this point.

There is a difference between MythTV and Mythbuntu.

MythTV is the program. Mythbuntu is an official flavour of Ubuntu that is purpose built to install Ubuntu with MythTV as the user interface. It will include all the bits and pieces that make up MythTV.

Mythbuntu is built on the latest versions of Ubuntu. It follows the release schedule of Ubuntu. So, we have Mythbuntu 14.04 but it is the underlying version of Ubuntu that is 14.04. MythTV will be at the development level that MythTV has reached by that time.

The packaging of MythTV for Ubuntu is a separate task from the development of Mythbuntu.

If you want to install MythTV on an existing install of Ubuntu, then install it from the software centre.

I don't see how that answers my question. I've already installed Mythtv from the software center. It most certainly does not work, and I'm led to believe I need Mythbuntu to make it work.
