I noticed there wasn't a thread about cars, so i thought I'd start one so we could share what we drive/wish we could drive and any modifications we've made to them :)

I currently drive a 2000 Audi A6 1.8t with a completely knackered automatic gear box. Its fun to drive and (so far, even though its ancient) the only water tight car I've had...

I had wanted to modify a raspberry pi and add like a dashboard computer, but never got round to it. Would've been cool though...

Big gas hog 1999 Ford Explorer here. It has a 5 liter V8, full time all wheel drive and gets about 17 mpg. It might use some gas but my kids will never get hurt in an accident. A woman ran a stop sign last year and I hit her car broadside, it totaled her car, mine got a little scratch on the bumper cover. :)

About 300 foot pounds of torque. My Explorer has over 220,000 miles on it and has only been in the shop one time for a problem with a wiring harness. I have always had good luck with Ford's.

220,000? That's a rather large number! My A6 has 77,000 on it and its broken.

4 wheels, doors, windows, a steering wheel, manual shift, a key I can loose in my bag, starts with a button provided the key is in the car, 6 liters max per 100 km. The rest are details. Details.

Mine is a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix. I am retired so the problem I have with it is driving it enough to keep the battery charged. :)

I do hear a creaking sound when I apply the brakes or the accelerator at slow speed. I don't know if it is the car making the sound or just my old joints. :lol:

07 VW Rabbit. Not the best fuel mileage, but it is a great little car. As for Ford Explorers, we were so grateful they didn't take our 2004 for a test drive when we traded it in. The tranny was shot and from what I had read it is a problem that only one shop can fix properly. Of course it'd require driving ~2400 miles each way to get it worked on.

My next car will be a truck. F250 or 350, crew cab, diesel, 4*4, with a full size bed.

2012 Nissan Versa Hatchback 6-Speed Man with the larger engine. Very nice.

1986 VW Jetta 4 door 5 speed manual naturally aspirated Diesel (non-turbo). I set it up with an auxiliary coolant-heated fuel tank and fuel filter and runs on waste vegetable oil (WVO). 52hp 68 ft/lbs torque. It gets 40-45 mpg on either diesel or veg oil. It has seen better days but still running strong.

VW Jetta, 2003, gasoline, manual shift. Wish it was a diesel, but the pocketbook failed me. 175,000 miles (281,600 kilometers) on the odormeter. Inscrutable little car... the dome light works on whim, apparently. Plastic pieces keep coming loose from the undercarriage, but that's because I sometimes drive on rutted, rocky back roads. I knocked a hole in the oil pan once... or, rather, a large rock did. It's a highway car and it puts up with my abusive behavior pretty well.

It's a shame Ford hasn't seen fit to sell the Ranger available in other parts of the world in the U.S. though perhaps that's changing?

I don't know the the new ones are as durable as the old ones though. I had an '84 that got totalled, got around $2500 for it and could do with it what I wanted. The damage was mostly cosmetic so got a door from a junk yard, cheap flimsy body panels, a front wheel hub and some wrenches and hammers:D. May have cost me $500, no more. Fixed it up, maaco paint job and drove it for several more years. It had a 2.9L German V6 that at 150,000 would still got 5000 miles between oil changes without adding any. Not stylish but would certainly take a lickin' and keep on tickin'. And it'd haul a full sheet of plywood.

I'd love to see them start selling them again in the US. I think Ford made their decision based on sales. I haven't owned one, but I did have a 1996 Dodge Dakota with a V6, which I drove across the US pulling a dual axle Uhaul trailer and only got slowed down on a few of the mountains. I wish I'd never traded it in.

Auto analysts have pegged the variable margin on each Ford F-series truck at between $8,000 and $10,000. Compare that to $2,500 in pretax profit in North America per vehicle sold and it is easy to see that the trucks contribute an outsized share of Ford’s overall profitability. I used to ride my bike to work every day. I've realized there are way too many drunks and druggies on the road to run the risk of being another hit and run statistic.

Try spraying WD40 on the front-end sway bar insulators.

That's pretty fast, to expect good fuel consumption. Also, if this a new car, it often takes 20,000K - 30,000K, to reach it's best fuel mileage.

Late reply I know (sorry) but I had the pleasure of driving one for a very brief period. The drive was fantastic, the interior was stunning and the driving position unbeatable. It screamed uncompromised quality to me.

When I first drove it I thought I would hate it, by the time I had to give it back I really didn't want to. I honestly do not like driving at all, this car changed the experience for me. It made quite an impression. I knew that this is a car I want to own :)

I'm down sizing house and number of cars. I listed my 1997 Nissan Altima on cars.com for $1650. Since I was the original owner and kept the car in excellent shape I sold it for the asking price.
My wife and I will now learn how to be a one car family after having 2 cars for pretty much all of our 44 years of marriage. We own a 2013 Toyota Avalon which should lats us for quite some time.

This is our third Tahoe. We will keep this one close to ten years, as we did with the other two. We didn't like the looks of the 2015 model, so, we bought a new 2014 in September of last year. So far, it has been as good or better than our others. Nice truck.
