Hello,

I just reinstalled (fresh) my copy of 12.10, but it did not solve one of the major problems I was having:

I cannot run
sudo apt-get update , because it cannot fetch any of the repositories. My browser can resolve the addresses, but the updater cannot. The same is true when I use the GUI System Updater.

Any help is appreciated.

I will post whatever screenshots may help if you need more specifics,

Daniel

hemustincrease; Hi ! Welcome to the forum.

I be the bearer of the news that release 12.10 is End-Of-Live, and has no support. The repository has been turned away and no longer exists as you may expect it.

Current releases are 12.04, 14.04 and 14.10 (10.04 Server edition). Install a current release and all will be finer.

Good things to come

Bummer. I was under the impression that the *.10's were the LTS releases, and the *.04's were the short-term releases.

The reason I wanted to reinstall 12.10 is that it provided excellent support for my Navy CAC (smart) card. That has been failing me lately.

Do you have any knowledge of how 13.04 does with CAC cards? If not, I guess I can try it, and won't be any worse off.

Thanks for getting back to me so quick

Daniel

P.S.: You skipped over 13.04 in your list of current releases, why is that?

hemustincrease; Well,

13.04 is also EOL as is 13.10 .
LTS releases(12.04, 14.04, 16.04) are released in 2 year cycles, supported for 5 years. Those in-between releases are supported for 9 months.

As to the 'CAC cards', all I can say is try 14.04 and see what results.

all in how it works
